When Did COVID-19 Peak in 2022?
A look at the timing of reported cases and deaths in the United States
Why look at the timing?
At the beginning of 2022, the Omicron wave pushed reported COVID-19 cases to the highest level of the year. Reports of deaths did not peak on the same day. I wanted to see how far apart those two peaks were and how the pattern looked in individual states.
The first three scenes walk through the national data. The last scene lets you select a state or territory and explore cases or deaths. All charts use seven-day averages to reduce the effect of day-to-day reporting changes.
About the data
Values are seven-day averages calculated from cumulative county-level reports. Regional comparisons and population-based claims are intentionally avoided because this dataset does not include population. Reporting revisions and delays remain in the data.
